Rap Gossip: Take Presidential Care

Yo yo yo, this my intro into another edition where my mission is about breaking down the culture of hip hop and learning things through discussing the rappers and musicians in the world surviving, grinding, making music for the world to hear and learn from. No lie.

It’s very influential and has a kind of uniqueness not like other music genres. And the world issues can bring hip-hop into the talk at any moment.

A couple years back the phrase YOLO was made popular by Drake and it’s pretty much a modern carpe diem. YOLO standing for You Only Live Once. A hip hop idiom for real and I don’t even know if Drake made it up. But he’s the poster child of the saying.

So recently even the President used the phrase YOLO in a interview. The topic was very serious and reporters and analysts took a negative approach to what he said. I think there can be a negative connotation to what YOLO means. It can be used to mean act careless with your decisions for the sake of preserving a great time in the moment.

It can also mean ignore what anyone else can think and say only to go after what is truly desired in the moment. Seize the day is another way of putting it but not every day is glorious or fun.

We have language to communicate in our lives and it’s not always what is said, but how it gets said. The intentions of our actions are not always clear due to the language that gets used. And other times there are no words to answer the questions we ask.

YOLO is all I can say to what I don’t know to be.
